ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

JSD STUDENT SERVICES / ATTENDANCE

EVERY ROADRUNNER belongs at Rosamond! We want to see your smiling face!

Attendance incentives include:
No Tardy Smartie: We may draw a number at random any morning. If we draw the number you are assigned in your class, and you're here on time, you get to come to the office for a treat!
Classroom Incentives: Teachers may give classroom incentives for attendance.
Individualized Plans: Where needed, we work with students and parents to implement individual attendance incentives / plans.

ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

Regular, on-time attendance at school is an important factor for success. When students are absent or late, they miss learning opportunities. Excessive tardies can be as detrimental as absences. Student success can best be achieved when students, parents, teachers and school administration work together.

*Please keep students home if they are ill. Teachers will work with students under these circumstances.

The automated system begins notifying parents of student absences after 9:15 a.m.

EXPLANATION
A Absence The student was absent and the school received no call or note from the parent or guardian.
E Verified excused absence The student was late or absent and is considered excused because of illness, medical or dental appointment confirmed with a timely note, or verified documentation indicating death/funeral of family member, wedding, court appearance, etc.
G Guardian Called Parent provided a written excused note or email in a timely manner, indicating the name of the student, date of the absence, reason for absence.
T Tardy The student arrived at school 15 minutes (or less) late.
V Vacation/
Educational Leave
The student is absent due to a prearranged absence or educational leave.

We will work closely with parents and guardians to encourage and support punctuality and attendance at school. If excessive unexcused absences occur, we may:

  • Notify parents and guardians about the State Law and the Rosamond policy (letter #1 found in the registration materials-Compulsory Education Form.)
  • Send a letter after 10 unexcused absences (Letter #2) asking the parent to contact the school and establish communication.
  • Send a letter via Certified Mail after 15 unexcused absences (Letter #3), which will require the parent to contact the school and participate in creating a plan for improved attendance.
  • Require an in-person meeting with school administration (as per the law) after 20 unexcused absences. A Truancy Referral will be made to Juvenile Court if attendance does not improve.

We are hopeful that this information will help to keep us focused on our common goal--to give children the best possible educational experience.

SEE YOU AT SCHOOL!
