If your child is absent, please call or email the office before 9:15. The Skyward automated system begins calling about absent children after 9:15.
Regular, on-time attendance at school is an important factor for success. When students are absent or late, they miss learning opportunities. Excessive tardies can be as detrimental as absences. Student success can best be achieved when students, parents, teachers and school administration work together.
|A||Absence||The student was absent and the school received no call or note from the parent or guardian.|
|E||Verified excused absence||The student was late or absent and is considered excused because of illness, medical or dental appointment confirmed with a timely note from doctor, or verified documentation indicating death/funeral of family member, wedding, court appearance, etc.|
|G-Q||Guardian Decision to Quarantine||Student is at home short term because of a guardian or parent decision to quarantine or self-isolate.|
|H-Q||Health Department Quarantine||The student is receiving educational services at home because of a Health Department quarantine or self-isolation requirement (at home or at school)|
|G||Guardian Called||Parent provided a written excused note or email in a timely manner, indicating the name of the student, date of the absence, reason for absence.|
|T||Tardy||The student arrived at school 15 minutes (or less) late.|
|The student is absent due to a prearranged absence or educational leave.|
We will work closely with parents and guardians to encourage and support punctuality and attendance at school. If excessive unexcused absences occur, we may:
- Notify parents and guardians about the State Law and the Rosamond policy (letter #1 found in the registration materials-Compulsory Education Form.)
- Send a letter after 10 unexcused absences (Letter #2) asking the parent to contact the school and establish communication.
- Send a letter via Certified Mail after 15 unexcused absences (Letter #3), which will require the parent to contact the school and participate in creating a plan for improved attendance.
- Require an in-person meeting with school administration (as per the law) after 20 unexcused absences. A Truancy Referral will be made to Juvenile Court if attendance does not improve.
We are hopeful that this information will help to keep us focused on our common goal--to give children the best possible educational experience.
